Review: The Brave One

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The Brave One is an astounding motion picture. I have no idea why it has a 42% rating on Rotten Tomaotes. It's absurd. Jodie Foster is an amazing actress and whatever role she takes on, she makes it human. She invests so much into all of her characters and we feel that investment reverberating off the screen. Neil Jordan is a masterful director and he works wonders here. All the haters complaining about the conclusion can take their preconceived notions about how most movies should have a "moral" ending and shove them. This is one of the best pictures of the year. A+

    Top 10 of 2006

Instead of doing separate articles I am going to list all movies together in one post. I think that's more efficient and plus no one wants to hear my rambling.

    Runners Up:

    20)Apocalypto
    19)Saw III
    18)The Last King of Scotland
    17)The Last Kiss
    16)Dreamgirls
    15)Children of Men
    14)The Fountain
    13)A Prairie Home Companion
    12)Factory Girl
    11)Little Miss Sunshine

    10)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Stranger than Fiction, dir. Marc Forster

Will Ferrel's best performance ever. A quirky, funny and extremely imaginative piece with every actor doing excellent work.

    9)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

    The Descent, dir. Neil Marshall

A nightmarish tale and the scariest film of the year. Neil Marshall provides us with amazing direction and the cinematography is excellent. Will have you terrified.

    8)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Akeelah and the Bee, dir. Doug Atchison

A sweet coming of age tale with KeKe Palmer giving one of the best young performances I have ever seen. Possesses something deeper than on first look.

    7)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Pan's Labyrinth, dir. Guillermo del Toro

A brutal fairy tale definitely not for kids. Magical, scary and enchanting every step of the way. Guillermo del Toro is astounding.

    6)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Notes on a Scandal, dir. Richard Eyre

A fascinating tale of obsession and what holding one's secrets can do. Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett are brilliant both turning in electrifying performances. The ending is amazing.

    5)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

    The Departed, dir. Martin Scorsese

The film that finally, and deservedly, got Martin Scorsese his Oscar. A look at the mob in Boston has never been so fascinating. The whole cast is excellent with Leo DiCaprio and Jack Nicholson standing out above the rest.

    4)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

World Trade Center, dir. Oliver Stone

A poignant film and while many people thought United 93 was better, I prefer World Trade Center. Oliver Stone does an amazing job of re-creating that tragic day. Everyone in the cast is great with Maggie Gyllenhaal giving an exceptional performance.

    3)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

    Little Children, dir. Todd Field

A very quiet and subtle masterpiece. Everything is in check here. Amazing script, excellent actors, great director and tight script. In a year where The Queen overshadowed everyone, Kate Winslet's extraordinary performance is the one that deserved the Oscar.

    2)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

    Babel, dir. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu

Another masterpiece with everyone in the cast doing amazing jobs. Brad Pitt gives his best performance to date, Cate Blanchett is excellent, and Adriana Barazza and Rinko Kikuchi give absolutely heartbreaking performances. Whatever crap this movie got, it didn't deserve it. Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu & Guillermo Arriaga are geniuses.

    Dun dun dun.......

    1)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

    Inland Empire, dir. David Lynch

A weird, crazy, hypnotic, psychotic, mind bender of a movie. David Lynch is excellent in going into the bizarre and trying to burrow deep into the psyche's of our minds. Laura Dern gives the performance of her life and invests so much in the role you can practically feel it reverberating off the screen. This is one extremely fascinating trip into the darkest regions of the mind. The best movie of 2007.

Those are the top movies. My personal awards will be coming soon. Enjoy! =D

    Chick Flick

This is Peter's shitty and hilarious attempt at making a chick flick.
