Academy Award Nominations

The ones I got right are in bold.

Best Picture

Atonement
Juno
No Country for Old Men
Michael Clayton
There Will Be Blood

Got 5/5 here. Pretty proud of myself forseeing Into the Wild's snub and Atonement and Juno's acceptance into Best Picture. I am also glad that I got rid of Sweeney Todd and replaced it with Michael Clayton.

Best Director

Paul Thomas Anderson - There Will Be Blood
Ethan & Joel Coen - No Country for Old Men

Tony Gilroy - Michael Clayton
Jason Reitman - Juno
Julian Schnabel - The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

Got 3.5/5 here thinking that the Atonement love would let Joe Wright get a nomination and the respect for Tim Burton would grab him a nod too. Oh well. Jason Reitman's nod was pleasantly unexpected. Tony Gilroy was my alternate so I get half a point for that.

Best Actor in a Leading Role

George Clooney - Michael Clayton
Johnny Depp - Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
Tommy Lee Jones - In the Valley of Elah
Daniel Day-Lewis - There Will Be Blood

Viggo Mortensen - Eastern Promises

Got 4.5 out of 5 here, with Viggo being my alternate. I've said it twice, I'll say it again, I KNEW TOMMY LEE JONES' RAVES WOULD NOT GO TO WASTE!! Everyone thought his performance was amazing in In the Valley of Elah, and even though he got zero precursor attention, I knew the Academy would nominate him.

Best Actress in a Leading Role

Cate Blanchett - Elizabeth: The Golden Age
Julie Christie - Away from Her
Marion Cotillard - La Vie en Rose
Laura Linney - The Savages
Ellen Page - Juno

Got 4/5 here thinking there was no possible way the Academy would nominate Cate Blanchett twice. I was wrong. I haven't seen The Golden Age, but I have a feeling I will like, or possibly even LOVE, her performance when I see it. However, for now, Angelina should have taken your spot, Cate.

Best Supporting Actor

Casey Affleck - The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Javier Bardem - No Country for Old Men
Philip Seymour Hoffman - Charlie Wilson's War
Hal Holbrook - Into the Wild
Tom Wilkinson - Michael Clayton

Got 5/5 here. Easiest category to predict. Tommy Lee Jones had a good shot at being nominated here, but I am glad he got nominated for In the Valley of Elah instead.

Best Supporting Actress

Cate Blanchett - I'm Not There

Ruby Dee - American Gangster
Saoirse Ronan - Atonement
Amy Ryan - Gone Baby Gone
Tilda Swinton - Michael Clayton

Got 4/5 here. Thought that Ruby Dee's nomination would just be at the SAG's. Kelly Macdonald should have gotten a nod here. After hearing things about her performance, it really sounded like she could get swept along with No Country for Old Men's love. Glad Ronan got the nomination when many people thought Catherine Keener would get bumped.

Best Original Screenplay

Diablo Cody - Juno

Nancy Oliver - Lars and the Real Girl
Tony Gilroy - Michael Clayton
Brad Bird, Jim Capobianco & Jan Pinkava - Ratatouille
Tamara Jenkins - The Savages

I got 4.5/5 here with Nancy Oliver being my alternate. Knocked Up seemed like a very likely candidate. It got a WGA nod and I thought that that would translate into an Oscar nomination.

Best Adapted Screenplay

Christopher Hampton - Atonement
Sarah Polley - Away from Her
Ronald Harwood - The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Ethan & Joel Coen - No Country for Old Men
Paul Thomas Anderson - There Will Be Blood

Got 5/5 here correctly predicting everyone. SARAH POLLEY IS AN OSCAR NOMINEE! This day was a comin'.

Best Foreign Language Film

Beaufort (Israel)
The Counterfeiters (Austria)

Katyn (Poland)
Mongol (Kazakhstan)
12 (Russia)

I got 2.5/5 here with 12 being my alternate. 4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days, The Orphanage, and Persepolis should be on this list.

Best Animated Feature

Persepolis
Ratatouille

Surf's Up

Where the hell did Surf's Up come from?? The Simpsons Movie was genius and deserved to be here. I haven't seen Surf's Up, and I would probably like it, but no one can beat The Simpsons. NO ONE.

Best Art Direction

American Gangster
Atonement
The Golden Compass
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
There Will Be Blood

Got 3.5/5. Alternate: Golden Compass

Best Cinematography

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Atonement
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

No Country for Old Men
There Will Be Blood

Got 4.5/5. Alternate: No Country for Old Men

La Vie en Rose
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Got 3/5.

Got 3/5. Alternate: The Bourne Ultimatum. Surprise: Into the Wild

Best Sound Mixing

3:10 to Yuma
The Bourne Ultimatum
No Country for Old Men
Ratatouille
Transformers

Got 2.5/5. Surprise: The Bourne Ultimatum

Best Sound Editing

The Bourne Ultimatum
No Country for Old Men
Ratatouille
There Will Be Blood
Transformers

Got 2.5/5. Alternate: The Bourne Ultimatum

Best Visual Effects

The Golden Compass
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Transformers

Got 3/3.

Best Makeup

La Vie en Rose

Norbit
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

Got 2/3. Norbit!!?? Really!? The fat did look like it had dimples and cellulite on it...

Best Original Score

3:10 to Yuma
Atonement
The Kite Runner

Michael Clayton
Ratatouille

Got 3.5/5. Alternate: 3:10 to Yuma.

Best Original Song

August Rush - "Raise It Up"
Enchanted - "Happy Working Song"
Enchanted - "So Close"
Enchanted - "That's How You Know"
Once - "Falling Slowly"

Got 2/5. Enchanted song overload? Or not?

Best Documentary Feature

Lake of Fire
No End in Sight
The Price of Sugar
The Rape of Europa
Sicko

Got 2.5/5 here. Alternate: War/Dance

I think I did fairly decent. These are (mostly) extremely rad Oscar nominations.
